Busy Busy Week!!

This week was the week that our supervisors came to visit and observe all of us teaching. They arrived Monday night and left Friday afternoon. Donna is the one from Iowa State and Sylvia is the one from Utah State. They observed two of my lessons, which went very well! Maggie, Gabby, and I were also able to watch Sylvia teach music all day on Tuesday to 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. On Tuesday night Sylvia cooked us some fresh salmon, potatoes, chicken, carrots, and salad which was so delicious!

Thursday night we had a formal dinner with all of our cooperating teachers and principals as well as Asbjorn, who is like the city official in charge of the international program. The dinner was at a fancy hotel right on the fjord. It was so lovely! Sylvia shared gifts with everyone and we began dinner with a seafood salad and bread with chili and basil oil. It was surprisingly very good- I am beginning to try more and more new things each day. The main course was venison and cooked veggies served with some brown mushroom sauce and creamy potatoes. For dessert we had some caramel pudding. It was very thick and tasty! I was so full, but we all still made it to Zumba that night :)

Friday was our last day with our supervisors. We spent lots of time working on our cover letters and resumes, which was so helpful and greatly appreciated! At school I was able to eat an Easter breakfast for lunch with the 1st and 2nd graders. We had eggs, bread, vegetables, cheese, salami, and plenty of jams and spreads. One of the teachers made an apple spread, a little thicker than the consistency of applesauce with chunks of apples in it. You put it on bread with some cheese..It was SO good! The school also had a school wide assembly type concert. Different grades sang and danced separately, and some songs everyone sang together. It was good to see the cohesiveness and welcoming environment of the school. There is such a good sense of community in the schools and it is nice to see everyone enjoying each other!

About half of the school!

After school on Friday, Trude, one of the teacher assistants, and 2 other ladies took us girls on a short hike. We hiked up past the waterfall near the mountain. It was nice to be able to spend time outside of school with such great people! Friday night we got to go to one of the cooperating teachers house for dinner and drinks and to hangout! It was so fun to get to know our cooperating teachers better! They are all so nice and friendly to us. I am glad we are able to get to work with such great people, they are going to make it much harder to leave!
